The second-hand marketplace Users Voice Anger About Sizing Updates

Shoppers are voicing their frustration after an update resulted in products showing incorrect sizing.

This online marketplace has updated its measurement guidelines for female and kids' apparel but did not contact all shoppers about the modification.

Social Media Response

Many shoppers and sellers are posting online saying Vinted listings now show a different size category than originally posted due to the recalibration.

Vinted explained the revised method more closely matches other platforms.

It has advised users to check their listings and update the measurements by hand where appropriate, resulting in member annoyance.

Measurement Approach Changes

Earlier, the sizing featured one number and one letter, such as S/8 or M/10.

The new system has an alphabetical indicator and numerical range for example S/UK 8-10.

With some products, the size labels have been reassigned - like an L measurement was formerly size 12 but now shows as UK 16-18.

Shopper Experiences

One content creator, who makes TikTok content about plus-size fashion, explained the modification "makes transactions more difficult".

"Few clothing companies classify XL as 20-22," which is what Vinted now does.

Stephanie Gallen, based in Glasgow, stated items she posted featuring size 14 markings were showing in the marketplace as size 20–22.

"Should someone sized 20-22 purchase these they will likely be quite upset," she explained.

Manual Updates

A different user, from Derby, explained she became annoyed due to the update requiring manual adjustment the measurements for "each individual item".

"This situation is especially annoying, since I have chronic health issues and platform income has been essential following partial earnings loss," she said.

Service Background

The platform boasts over 100 million shoppers, including 18 million in the UK.

It has emerged as a preferred choice versus similar marketplaces including eBay and Depop.

This is not the initial instance when a surprising modification to the app has proved unpopular: earlier, the service retracted a modification to its shipping options due to shopper criticism.
